Findly - AI Photo & File Search for Android

Last Updated: October 9, 2026

TL;DR: Findly reads and understands your photos and documents entirely on your phone, with an AI model that runs on the device. Your files, searches, faces and locations never leave your phone, and we never receive them. The only time Findly uses the internet is to download its AI model once. ON-DEVICE ONLY

1. Information We Collect

None.

Findly has no account, no servers that receive your data, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. We do not collect your photos, documents, search queries, face data, locations, device identifiers or usage information.

2. What Findly Reads and Computes on Your Phone

To make your phone searchable, Findly reads the following on the device and keeps what it computes in its private app storage. None of it is sent anywhere.

  • Photos and screenshots: their content, file names, folders and dates, to search them by what they show.
  • Documents (PDF, Word, text): their names and text, to search inside them. Only if you grant all-files access or pick folders.
  • Photo location: the GPS position stored in a photo, if any, to group trips and places. It is matched to a city with a list built into the app, without any online map service.
  • Faces: Findly can find faces in your photos and group photos of the same person, so you can search by a name you give. This creates face templates (numbers describing a face), which are biometric data. They are stored only on your phone. In the EU, EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland, face grouping is off until you turn it on. Elsewhere it is on by default. Anywhere, you can turn it off and delete all face data with one tap in the app.
  • The search index: text extracted from documents, numerical descriptions ("embeddings") of photos and text, and the Library collections built from them (moments, trips, places, kinds of documents).
  • Your settings: hidden folders, recent searches, names you give to people, and preferences.

3. Data Sharing

None.

We do not share, sell, rent or trade any information. We never receive your data, so there is nothing to share.

4. Internet Use and Third Parties

Findly uses the internet in exactly one situation:

One-time model download: on first setup, Findly downloads its AI search model and checks the file's size and checksum and then works fully offline.

No third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking libraries are included in Findly. The face detection and recognition models are bundled inside the app.

Purchases: Findly is a paid app sold through Google Play. Google processes your payment under Google's Privacy Policy. Google gives developers order details (such as the order number, country and price), which we use only for refunds, tax and accounting.

5. Backups and Changing Phones

Findly uses Android's own backup system. We have no copy.

  • Google backup (to your Google account): only your settings, hidden folders and recent searches. Android encrypts this backup when your phone has a screen lock.
  • Phone-to-phone transfer (when you set up a new phone from your old one): the settings above plus the search index and your face groups and names, so you don't have to start over.
  • Never backed up: face data to the cloud, and the AI model files.

6. Permissions

  • Photos (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES): to search your photos and screenshots. You can allow only some photos.
  • Photo location (ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION): to read where photos were taken, for trips and places.
  • All files access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): to search documents in Downloads, WhatsApp and other folders. Optional: you can pick folders instead, or skip documents. Findly only reads files; it never changes or deletes them.
  • Notifications: to tell you when your photos are searchable and to show indexing progress with a pause button.
  • Foreground service: so indexing can run at full speed while your phone charges.
  • Internet: only for the one-time model download.

7. Children's Privacy

Findly does not collect data from anyone, of any age. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Data Security

Everything Findly creates is kept in its private app storage, which Android protects from other apps. Because nothing is sent to us, there is no server that could be breached. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open Findly and see what it shows, as with your gallery app.

9. Your Rights and Control

You have full control over everything Findly stores:

  • Turn off face grouping and delete face data: Index tab → Delete all face data
  • Hide folders from the index: Index tab → Hidden folders
  • Rebuild the index: Index tab → Rebuild index
  • Revoke permissions: Android Settings → Apps → Findly → Permissions
  • Delete everything: Android Settings → Apps → Findly → Clear storage, or uninstall Findly

10. GDPR and UK GDPR

Findly processes your files, faces and locations only on your own device, for your own use, and IppoCode never receives that data. We therefore hold no personal data about you from the app, and there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or erase on your behalf. You can exercise all of these yourself with the controls above.

Face grouping is off by default in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland and runs only after you turn it on. For purchases, Google is responsible for payment data; the order details we receive from Google are kept only as tax and accounting law requires. You can contact us with any privacy question, and you have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If a change ever affects what leaves your phone, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
